I watch the clock – it’s ten to eight.
I start to worry – my mum is late!
Is she just buying a new modern dress
Or may have forgotten the current address?
Is she just watching a theatrical play?
Or maybe have lost in the darkness her way?
Or maybe her boss made her work longer hours
And she can’t approach sooner the house?
Or maybe she ate a lot of sweet cake
And now is having a stomachache?
What if grey wolves dragged her into the woods?
What if in Morocco she’s getting fresh fruits?
My mum is the best, she is number one.
What if she has found some better son?

I start having a panic and sobbing too:
Who will ask me from now, “How are you?
Did you have any delicious lunch?
Do you feel good? I love you so much!”
Who will give me clean clothes, care and food?
Who will take me for walk to the park or the wood?
Who will treat me with honey, hot milk and some pills,
When I have a sore throat and don’t want to be ill?

And then I get happy - I can hear her steps!
I start jumping and laughing and clapping my hands.
“I did all the shopping and missed my last buses,
I went in the rain, couldn’t wait till it passes”.
My mummy is tired and cold and wet:
I am in a hurry to do all my best:
I bring her dry clothes and a warm knitted vest,
I take her big bags to give her some rest.
I heat a big kettle for tea and soup, too,
I whisper to Mummy, “How are you?
Did you have any delicious lunch?
Do you feel good? I love you so much!”
